Toddlers - 22 months to 36 months
Every day your child will be developing their independence to explore and learn about the world around them.
Children’s personalities develop and strong friendships form. Within this age group we support children with the growing need to express their emotions and challenge boundaries. The team begin to introduce simple numbers, colours and shapes within the children’s play, whether that be inside or outdoors.
Within our toddler room we continue to encourage them to freely explore both inside and outside areas giving them a larger more challenging environment which will gently prepare them for their next stage in learning - preschool.
We continue to support and promote children’s independence within this age group, we have a focus on increasing this through self-selection throughout the day from choosing activities to take part in the environment the children enjoy washing their hands, serving fruits and vegetables and pouring their own water. With this we are able to plan and create challenges throughout the inside and outside continuous provision area to support the children’s ongoing learning.
Your child will have free flow access to their safe and secure outside area in which activities are enhanced daily to ensure that they are motivated and encouraged to learn more about the world around them.
Within the toddler room your child will begin to form strong relationships with their peers, and you will begin to notice their language developing into small sentences. Strong friendships form and through their interaction our Practitioners understand and are able to support the children’s creativity within play.
You will notice that your child will be showing a wide variety of emotions around this age, we know children can find it difficult to express themselves and often show behaviours which are sometimes difficult to manage. This can sometimes be related to areas of learning like sharing with their friends, we ensure that throughout your toddler’s day there are many chances to turn take. Our team are dedicated to supporting you and your child through this challenging time and giving you the time to discuss individual needs.
We use the attending approach to behaviour in line with our policy, we comment and attend to positive behaviour and steer away from negative labelling to behaviour, this works well with most children due to the positive interaction, delight and reward that comes with it.
Our staff are fully proactive in encouraging children with their health and self-care, they will continue to change children in the dedicated nappy changing areas but also giving your child free access to bathroom areas to ensure their transition from nappies into pants is as smooth as possible. We will support you every step of the way when you feel it is the right time for them.
We understand that transitions can be daunting for both parents and children, we will inform you in advance of planning your child’s transition into preschool, we will then ensure your child becomes familiar with their key staff and also the environment.
