Hopscotch Day Nursery Group, in partnership with Haven House, is thrilled to announce the acquisition of the former visitor centre at Hill Head. The site will soon be transformed into a new children's day nursery, scheduled to open in early 2025. This marks the tenth nursery for Hopscotch, which was founded in 2005, and coincides with the celebration of the company's 20th anniversary.
The new nursery will be named 'Harbourside' in reference to the proximity to the harbour and the views that will be visible from the nursery. The new setting will emphasize the outdoor environment, leveraging its unique location next to the beach and the Hill Head Haven nature reserve.
Freya Derrick MBE, Founder of Hopscotch, stated, “Our vision is simple: we aim to provide a day nursery with a dedicated ethos and commitment to early years education in an outdoor, natural environment. We focus on nature, sustainability, and environmental responsibility in this area of special scientific interest (SSI).”
Drawing inspiration from countries like Sweden and Norway, recognized global leaders in early childhood development, Hopscotch plans for children at this nursery to spend the majority of their time outdoors. Freya continues: “The nature reserve and coastline will serve as their classroom, where they will learn and grow immersed in natural cycles—from daily tides to seasonal changes. When weather conditions are not ideal, a stunning indoor facility will ensure children continue to benefit from this unique setting.”
