Babies - 3 months to 15 months
At Hopscotch we do everything we can to support you and your child in making the important transition into nursery as smooth as possible. It is with this in mind that at Hopscotch, you will discover a home-from-home environment designed at children’s height with accessible toys and activities for a good balance of quiet time and stimulating activities.
Our caring staff provide a safe and loving environment, enriched with communication and language as well as physical, personal, social and emotional stepping stones.
At such an early stage of their life, babies are constantly observing and responding to their environment and the people caring for them. Following the guidance of the Early Years Foundation Stage, staff will carefully encourage babies in their independence and development in the most subtle ways to ensure natural progression is achieved.
We welcome babies from the age of 12 weeks and work closely with parents to settle them in, paying close attention to accommodating their own personal feeding and sleep routines.
Your child will be allocated a key person who will be responsible for learning everything about them before they start with us. They will work in partnership with you and your family enabling you to leave them with us with confidence.
We know how important your child’s routine is so we want to support what you do at home, your key person will talk through your child’s routine to ensure that we are able to mirror this within our nursery environment, we aim to create a home from home style environment where your child can feel relaxed. We know that sleep times aid children’s growth and development so we enjoy providing them with a calm sleeping environment with soft music and their own comforters. We do know that nursery can be a different environment at first so we will keep you informed and plan together on a daily basis as your child settles in.
Our nurseries are enriched with quality resources and provisions to ensure that your baby is stimulated throughout their day with us, by offering them open ended play areas known as continuous provision we ensure that they are able to access their favourite toys as well as discovering new ones.
Within our baby room we know that sensory play enhances children’s learning, through this hands on experience we stimulate all 5 senses seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling and tasting. Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which lead to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks, it also plays a huge role in supporting language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.
Outside play is a key element within your baby’s day, there is nothing quite like a bit of fresh air and an opportunity to explore the world around them. Our gardens are fully equipped with safe and secure places for children to explore freely in the close eye of the watching Practitioner.
Ensuring that your child’s diet is enriched with goodness is key to a happy baby. We are committed to providing a home from home style menu that has been tested and adapted to ensure that it provides the key nutrients for healthy growth. We work with you at every stage of the weaning process, from making bottles in our designated milk kitchen areas, to pureed vegetables and fruits, baby led weaning to our full children's menu. All of this is freshly prepared on site by our nursery cooks, so you do not need to worry.
We know that when your child is ready for that next stage in their nursery journey that they will be fully prepared for their transition, we will work with you and their next key person prior to joining their new room to ensure that they have a smooth transition. We will support them on visits ensuring you are fully informed of the transition process your child will be experiencing. We will be with you every step of the way.
