Hopscotch Day Nurseries Founder has been awarded an MBE for Services to Education


Freya Derrick, Founder of Hopscotch Day Nurseries, has been named on the honours list for her services to education.

Freya commenting on her MBE award said, "When I started the business 17 years ago, I couldn't have imagined being awarded this. It's been an amazing journey, and the award reflects my team's hard work and dedication, as much as mine. To be externally recognised for our work makes me incredibly proud."

"The last two years have been very challenging for everyone. Throughout the pandemic, my team kept in contact with our parents, and we continued to provide vital support. We did virtual story times, gave parents suggestions on enrichment activities to keep their children active, and were on hand for them throughout the various lockdowns. Coming out of such a stressful time for our parents and staff with this recognition is very humbling."

From the whole Hopscotch team we would like to congratulate Freya on her award. She continues to lead Hopscotch by example and empowers all of the team to deliver the best standard of early years education for our children. Now lets pop the champagne!
​​Freya started Hopscotch Day Nurseries in 2005 after struggling to find suitable childcare for her children and wanted to improve the outcomes for children in her area. She began with opening a nursery in Gosport and now has nine successful nurseries across Hampshire and employs 295 staff.
