Hopscotch Harbourside

Sitting on Hill Head Harbour within the Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve, Harbourside is genuinely unlike anywhere else. Beach School and nature-based learning sit at the heart of the curriculum – children learn beside the shoreline, track the tides and get to know the wildlife on their doorstep. Back inside, the calm, interconnected building has look-out spots in every room and a nature-watching balcony that brings the harbour into daily life.

A word from…

Lisa Hurst Nursery Manager

Harbourside is for children who learn best outside – through tides, seasons, muddy boots, and big questions. I grew up making memories along the Solent, and I’m excited to help children build that same love of nature and confidence in themselves – whatever the weather.

What our parents thinks...

  • After feeling a little anxious about finding the right nursery and space for our little boy to thrive, in Harbourside we found it!
Our son has absolutely and still absolutely loves nursery. The outdoor element of the nursery is what set them apart from the others and through the summer and autumn this was incredible to watch how our son thrived by being able to explore and play within a natural environment.
Although the winter has been colder, the adventures he has have been second to none. His speech, walking and eagerness to explore has been inspired and I am sure that’s helped with the team there at the nursery.
I am also shared photos and updates throughout the day which has helped mumma settle into the experience too. I would highly recommend and look forward to seeing how this relationship develops as my son grows over the years with the team and nursery.

  • Harbourside nursery is just brilliant. We wanted somewhere where our daughter would have more focus on outdoor and natural activities and this nursery goes above and beyond that. We appreciate that there aren’t any plastic, flashy, noisy toys; it’s all natural toys that invite open play and every activity is hands on and sensory. We couldn’t have designed a better nursery if we tried. We’re so thrilled that our daughter is looked after excellently and has the space to grow and learn.

  • This is definitely where I can leave my son with peace of mind, although in the beginning we struggled so much with separation issues during drop off but the staff are there to support you and help you what’s best for the child and the parents. The app really helps as well to stay connected and updated of what your kids are doing and eating during the day. Well done to the amazing and hardworking staff.

  • We moved nursery for a number of reasons and we are so glad we did. Obviously moving a 2 year old is quite mad but he just wasn’t settling after moving into toddlers at his old nursery. He is a very emotive boy and still gets upset at drop off but we were expecting that, what we are so appreciative of is how much thought and energy everyone at harbourside is putting into finding ways for our toddler to feel happy and safe. Can’t fault any of the staff who are what makes the place so friendly and inviting. The facilities are lovely and they go out twice a day which is perfect for our energetic boy. Beach, haven, garden, rain or shine! Highly recommend a visit where you will just get that feeling. Plus a lovely cafe next door!

  • Just wow – what a fabulous nursery, from the location to activities to off-site adventures to the brilliant staff and of course the yummy meals and snacks. My child loves going to nursery and is developing really well with the guidance of the dedicated staff, my child adores the staff and being with his nursery friends! It really is a one of a kind nursery and any family who joins, I believe will be supported so well along there child’s nursery journey!

  • Our daughter moved from a different nursery to Harbourside. We were initially a little worried about moving her after she had just started to settle at her previous nursery, but thought it would be worthwhile in the long run given the fantastic opportunity to spend so much time in nature. We did have some initial concerns on her first day, but these were immediately addressed and resolved.

We are so glad that we moved to Harbourside, our daughter has settled remarkably well and is now excited to go to nursery as well as happily waving goodbye as we leave. She has developed new skills and her confidence has skyrocketed since starting at Harbourside. She’s
becoming so much more independent, as well as more communicative (both speaking and signs).

  • My son has been attending Harbourside for 2 months now, I love how much they go out and experience the beach and nature reserve. Everyone is always very welcoming when we arrive and often will greet my son by name. He is very settled there and I feel at ease leaving him there knowing his day will be full of fun and exciting activities.

  • We are so impressed with the Harbourside, where our grandson attends three days a week. The location is perfect offering the children daily, safe access to the beach and the nature reserve. The building has has been so thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, light and engaging set of rooms for the children.
Meals are freshly prepared on site.
The Hopscotch educational philosophy permeates everything and all the staff are committed to it. Our grandson’s key worker sends detailed monthly reports outlining his progress and future targets in learning, social and developmental goals. There are weekly reports of his group’s activities outside and in the setting, accompanied with fantastic photos showing the children fully engaged in a very wide range of activities. The learning is carefully planned to link to the children’s interests but also to stimulate observation, enquiry, motor skills, scientific, social, numeracy and literacy development.
Daily hand overs give detailed feedback.
