The Hopscotch child is curious, confident, and capable. They are supported to explore with wonder, ask questions, share ideas, and learn through play that feels joyful and purposeful – through our ambitious curriculum.

Curriculum

Our curriculum sets out what we want children to learn, experience, and grow into during their earliest years.

Grounded in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), it’s brought to life through meaningful play, secure relationships, and carefully chosen experiences shaped around each child’s interests, needs, and stage of development.

We believe children are naturally curious and capable learners. Our practitioners spend time noticing what captures each child’s attention and then gently extend it through in-the-moment teaching, thoughtful questioning, and well-prepared environments. Everyday moments become real learning – language, confidence, friendships, problem-solving, and independence.

• Environmentally Responsible

  Understands the importance of caring for the natural world — and that small actions can make a positive difference.

  In action: toilet training from a young age, environmental monitors, growing and eating our own herbs and vegetables.

• Early Literacy & Love of Stories

  Experiences rich language, stories, songs, and books — building strong foundations for communication and reading.

  In action: parent lending libraries, story baskets, and rhyme time.

  Learns to recognise similarities and differences with empathy, kindness, and respect.

  In action: celebrating festivals such as Diwali, family books, and teaching kindness and respect.

  Approaches the world with curiosity — building the attitudes and confidence to keep exploring and discovering.

  In action: woodwork, yoga, and cooking and baking opportunities.

  Expresses themselves with growing confidence and understands that their voice matters.

  In action: voting stations, beautifully resourced continuous provision, and chatter boxes.

  Feels part of their nursery and community — developing connection, pride, and belonging.

How we share their learning

Weekly round-up

Staff publish a weekly summary of the activities and learning opportunities available in the nursery.

Monthly observations

Your child’s key person shares a written observation with photos – focusing on progress and next steps. You can comment, respond, and add your own photos of learning at home.

Parents' evenings

Held twice a year. A chance to sit down with your child’s key person, talk through progress, and review their summative assessment in detail.

Two-year check

If your child is with us when they turn 2, their key person will complete a two-year check with you – identifying strengths and any areas where a little extra support might help.
