We are proud of our catering team and the home cooked, nutritious food they provide for all the children in our care. If your child is with us all day then they will eat most of their meals with us and that is a responsibility we take seriously. Good eating habits are important so we make sure the children are offered a variety of textures and flavours from nutritionally balanced menus.
Mealtimes are a sociable part of each day where we encourage children to eat familiar freshly prepared meals as well as to develop independence and learning by introducing new foods, textures and tastes. Small groups of children sit together with team members encouraging and supporting their first steps towards independent mealtimes, helping with service and making healthy choices.
Babies at Hopscotch are fed with breast milk or formula which is provided by parents, weaning your baby onto solids is only done at your request. Our cooks prepare freshly pureed food and only introduce new foods once you have tried them at home.
We use a local greengrocer for all our fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and eggs who in turn are supplied by local growers and farmers in Swanmore, Southwick, Titchfield and Hayling Island. Milk is supplied from farms near Salisbury.
Each of our nurseries has a dedicated cook who is fully trained and experienced who uses fresh ingredients wherever possible. Each of our seasonally based menus are nutritionally balanced following the guidelines laid down by the Caroline Walker Trust and the Children's Food Trust, and include foods from a variety of different cultures ensuring we support the children’s natural curiosity in the world around them. We follow guidelines and legislation for food hygiene, safety and allergen labelling which is monitored by the Food Standards Agency. All our Nurseries have obtained the highest Food Hygiene rating of 5.
